Yellow Jacket 60667 Refrigerant Recovery Pliers Test
I finally made good on getting a new HVAC/R tool, the Yellow Jacket 60667 refrigerant recovery pliers. I had wanted one of these for a while. Let's test them out and see what happens. Actually, let's make it twice as nice! (This was two videos glued together after expertly cutting off the ending of one.)

What I meant to say when discussing the Anker power station and didn't at first: to my great surprise, it would not start the recovery machine. It'd try, barely turn it over and then cut out on overload. Given that I have used it to start and run other “difficult” loads, ...

Inspecting the Leaky Dehumidifier's Evaporator Coil

I've got more questions than answers. I still have to check the condenser coil. There was a very noticeable leak (audible and I could feel the escaping nitrogen gas) until I removed the fins from the area it was coming from. After the fins were cleared away, this leak stopped. I can't explain that. You may have noticed several suspicious looking bubbles popping up between 3:20 to about 3:34 in ...

York Champion "Tombstone" Air Conditioner Running

Recorded February 2024. I happened to see this air conditioner running as I walked by, and thought it worthy of a little attention in the form of a video. Made sometime in the 1970s or early 1980s, this has been serving reliably for over forty (maybe even closer to fifty!) years. In that time, I'm sure it has seen plenty of abuse, as it's connected to a building used for student housing. The ou...

    my dad worked at Friedrich's refrigeration in San Antonio Texas for over 30 years from around 1955 to 1985. He worked there with his brother and father. mom and dad got a small window unit maybe around 1980 or so and that was the only room in the house(their bedroom) that had air conditioning.

    i have a big old Kenmore Air conditoner. a few weeks ago it stopped working and was tripping the breaker. I fixed it with a wire coat hanger. the plastic fan came free from the motor and I just wrapped the wire around the fan to reattach it to the motor. it's the condenser fan. the thing was overheating and shutting off because the fan was not spinning. not as old as your air conditioner.

    • @uxwbill
      @uxwbill 4 дня назад

      This is not the big deal that people make it out to be, for several reasons. Nearly all refrigerants can be ignited and many will decompose into very toxic gases if that happens. Whether charged with conventional or flammable refrigerant, these devices use only a few ounces at most. The average disposable lighter contains more liquid (and in some cases, it's the same stuff -- isobutane).

    When it comes to vintage PCs like this, do you prefer systems from big name vendors such as Dell, Compaq and Gateway, or custom-build systems from small shops like this one? The reason I ask is because a lot of systems like this were built by mom and pop computer shops with motherboards that only have a 5 pin AT keyboard port on them, and for the rest of your ports are broken out by headers either on the motherboard or by a multi I/O card. Compare that to computers from companies like Dell, Compaq and IBM from the same era where the motherboard typically has a full card of serial, parallel and PS/2 ports.

    • @uxwbill
      @uxwbill 16 дней назад

      I prefer the big name vendors. One never knows to what stresses a self built system was subjected during its assembly. Sometimes people would use the cheapest and most awful cases, expansion cards, power supplies or even motherboards. Big name manufacturers have had their share of foibles, but in general, they used good quality parts and usually got them put together properly.

    • @ENB2002
      @ENB2002 8 дней назад

      @@uxwbill I would say I agree with you. I like systems where all of the I/O ports are just integrated onto the motherboard and I don't have to worry about breaking out headers or using super I/O cards.
